Goats

At Metaremåla we try to make the best use of the land in its natural state and have therefore tried to select animals that can help us maintain and enhance the beauty of an open forest farm in a natural way.

Goats were an obvious choice, as they are expert browsers and therefore perfect for keeping bushes and undergrowth under control. We source our goats locally, from Framtida Bruk in Slansmåla, a small farm just a few kilometres away producing award-winning goats’ milk cheese.

Each year, when the new kids are born, we take a number of billies to replenish our stock. They come to our beautiful farm when they are around 10 weeks old and spend their entire lives on the farm, eating grass and bushes in a tranquil pasture. After 1-2 years their lives are ended humanely on the premises, after which the meat is used to produce delicious gulasch, burgers, sausages and more. The skins are sent to a local tannery. Each one is unique, all are beautiful.

Poultry and eggs

Thanks to our mixture of mainly Muscovy ducks, and Amrok, Legbar, Cochin and ‘mongrel’ chicken, we are able to offer free-range eggs pretty much all year round. Given that we breed our own, we always have excess drakes and roosters; for the sake of the hens, these have to be either culled or sold at the age of 6 - 9 months. The difference in taste between mass-produced and free-range (both eggs and birds) is phenomenal!
